Age differences in visual reaction time of "brain-damaged" and normal children under regular and irregular preparatory interval conditions.

چکیده

A reaction time experiment vas carried out in an attempt to validate the findings of Czudner and Rourke (1970). Two groups of children were employed one with neuropsychological and electroencephalographic evidence of cerebral dysfunction; the other, a control group of normal children. Each group was subdivided into two age classifications; "young" (ages 6-9 years), and "old" (ages 10-13 years). These groups were matched for age, sex, I.Q., and socio economic status. The procedure consisted of regular and irregular preparatory interval reaction-time conditions. The results demonstrated that latency was directly related to length of preparatory interval in the regular procedure for both the normal and the brain-damaged groups. However, in the case of the irregular procedure, there was an inverse relationship between length of preparatory interval and reaction time for the young brain-damaged subjects and the normals. The results gave support to the Czudner and Rourke (1970) findings that young brain-damaged children may recover from the deficit(s) in the ability to develop and maintain attention. The results further demonstrated that a reaction-time procedure can be used as an effective method for the detection of brain dysfunction among young (ages 6-9 years) children. Age differences in auditory reaction time of "brain-damaged" and normal children under regular and irregular preparatory interval conditions.

Groups ef'"brain-damaged" and normal children were subdivided into "young" (6-9 years) and "old" (1043 years) groups and subjected to an auditory reaction-time procedure consisting of regular and irregular preparatory interval conditions. The most important results were as follows: (1) the performancesof the young normal, old normal, and old brain-damaged groups were superior to that of the you...

Effectiveness of Neurofeedback on the Event-Related Potentials in Children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of neurofeedback therapy on event-related potential (EPR) at both behavioral and physiological level in children (7-12 years) with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  Methods: The current study is a quasi-experimental project whit pre-test and post-test control group. In this study, the subjects (12 patients ...

Selective deficits in human audition: evidence from lesion studies

The human auditory cortex is the gateway to the most powerful and complex communication systems and yet relatively little is known about its functional organization as compared to the visual system. Several lines of evidence, predominantly from recent studies, indicate that sound recognition and sound localization are processed in two at least partially independent networks. Evidence from human...
